Five Albums for the Deserted Island

As it turns out, you are being banished to a desolate body of land surrounded on all sides by a seemingly infinite body of water. The conditions are grim. Your diet will be restricted to a humble variety of fruits and nuts. Actually that sounds kind of nice. Your diet will be restricted to the regurgitated matter of komodo dragons, with the occasional banana. Not ripe. For beverages, urine spritzers abound. In order to keep yourself busy, you will invent games to play, such as Count the Leeches, and Identify That Wound (a classic). But one luxury has been granted to you. No, you can't bring a Razr Scooter! But you can bring five CD's, which can be played in the stereo you find buried under that pile of stinky conch shells! Things are looking up!

Ahhhh, decisions to be made. Only five!? Yes, selfish. Five's the limit. Alright, well here's what I'm bringing:

Michael Jackson - Thriller (Cause you know imma be dancin, son.)

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (I'll always be a sucker for these fellas.)

50 Cent - Gent Rich or Die Tryin' (Which hip hop album to bring was probably the toughest decision I had to make. I'm still a bit on the fence. I like the party feel of Get Rich but feel rather morose about not picking Life After Death by Biggie. Hmm...)

Radiohead - Amnesiac (Duh.)

The White Stripes - Elephant (I won't be letting my dire situation stop me from playing air guitar.)

Alright, folks. Let's hear it. What are you bringing?

  2. this is tough. I have a lot of new picks.

    1. The Clash- Sandinista!

    2. Man Man- Six Demon Bag

    3. Neutral Milk Hotel- In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

    4. NOFX- So Long, and Thanks for all the Shoes

    5. Los Cojolites- No Tiene Fin

    6. 7 Angels, 7 Plagues- Jhazmyne's Lullaby

    7. Various Artists- Romeo and Juliet Soundtrack (shocking...I know)

It would be nearly impossible for me to exclude these last two albums even though one of them is embarrassing. I know i would need it.

E $, did Mars Volta really not make the cut?

  3. Grace, your senses do not deceive you. There is in fact NO Mars Volta on my list. And to be honest with you, I only considered them for mere seconds, ruling them out fairly quickly. I believe my other choices have a bit more of a timeless quality to them, while the Mars Volta feels very now for me. If they were to replace anything on the list it would be the NIN.

In regards to your choices, I don't know what #5 is and #6 is funny and cute. At least it's not From Autumn to Ashes. Or Mabus.

Joey - While Nevermind is a nice, legitimate choice, I chose the White Stripes for my poppy accessible rock CD because frankly they kick a little more ass than Nirvana did, no disrespect to my boy Kurt.

  4. WAIT HOLD THE FUCKING PRESSES.

I forgot about The Beatles - White Album. Nix the NIN.

  5. You know how I feel about that Fifty choice bro. Swap the White album for that Goon! Too bad Cedric doesn't go well with desert islands. As for me, I'd go with:

King Tubby - I am the King

    Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters

    The Pixies - Bossanova

    Chopin - Chopin

Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde

Still sizing it up. But pretty confident with these five. Gotta have that Chopin!

  6. I was gonna put the white album too. i would slide it in there instead of Los Cojolites, but i am soooo into Los Cojolites right now...Jarocho is whats up.

also...Rabbit Habits by Man Man. I like it more and more every day. Its so hard to choose :/

  7. I'm scared of this question. Maybe I'm scared of commitment. However...
    1. Ready To Die- Biggie
    2. Funeral- Arcade Fire
    3. Evil Empire- Rage Against the Machine
    4. The White Album- The Beatles (there, I did it.)
    5. Amnesiac- Radiohead

These are based on the fact that I've been listening to all of these albums A LOT over the years & am still not sick of them.

  8. 1. OK Computer- Radiohead
    2. At the BBC- Pixies
    3. Blue Album- Weezer
    4. Live in NY- Nirvana
    5. Freewheelin- Bob Dylan

  9. I too am basing my choices on the enduring qualities with the exception of Freewheelin which is a new thing for me. I like Bob Dylan and most of his records but this ones really got IT.

  10. Tough choice for me between Blonde on Blonde and Freewheelin. Possibly because I like the idea of being "Freewheelin." Also, I haven't heard at the BBC. Must hear.
